Located in Torvaianica on Mediterranean coast of Rome, Italy Zoo Marine Roma is a mix between a marine wild life park, a water park and theme park and even features a small rollercoaster. The park was inaugurated in September 2005 and was until it was sold to Dolphin Discovery in 2015 a sister park of Zoo Marine Algarve located in Portugal since 1989.
The park spans for 40,000 m² and has 19 attractions toped by the dolphin and sea lion shows.
Zoomarine Roma prouds to be very active in animal conservation and in our visit the animals seemed healthy and well kept. We watched a dolphin show where three trainers worked with three dolphins. The show included a part when the trainers swam with the dolphins. They certainly seemed to have strong bonds with the dolphins. The show was accompanied by a video, explaining their conservation work, which extends to helping marine life all over the world. Comparisons to Zoo Marine Algarve are inevitable. The dolphin demonstration though is impressive falls a bit short when compared to the Algarve park.
Animal-wise, there are also sea lion shows and they have a lot of birds, including flamingos. There was also a meet and greet with a “kissing” sea lion as you can see in the photo.
There are also a 20-minute interactive presentation with birds that we can recommend.
When we visited in April 2018 the water park section of the park was closed. However there are lots of criticism from visitors that most of the pools are only knee deep with very small, tame slides aimed at little kids and the slides for adults and bigger children are mostly old and very slow running. From afar it looked like that this section need care and investement.
In the theme park section there’s Segway experience free for everyone to try, a family roller coaster with one loop (nothing fancy!!!) and a boat water fight.
All in all a fun marine life theme park that need lots of renovations and improvements.
