The Algarve in Portugal has some of Europe’s largest and most exciting water parks due to the fact that average temperatures reaches 29ºC (84ºF) in the summer. Aquashow located in Quarteira blasts away the competition (Slide’n’Splash, Aqualand and Zoo Marine) because it brilliantly mixes water and amusement park attractions like slides, pools, waves, exotic birds and even a top notch roller coaster.
The park exists for 2 decades now and has two different zones (an old one with the swimming polls and the slides) and a new one (with a roller coaster and some other inland rides like a top swing).
The main attraction in the park is the largest water roller coaster in Europe built by the German company Mack Rides (the same guys beyond Europa Park) with 740 meters long and 23.5 meters high, equivalent to an eight-store building and had the approximate cost of 10 million euros. Also deserves a mention “White Fall”, a unique worldwide attraction that can be described as a slide consisting of two large triangles joined. The visitors are launched from the top of a “triangle” for a fall steeply, quickly reached the apex of another “triangle”.
We went there in the Summer 2012 and had a very good time. There were really is something for all ages to enjoy (including a bird of prey show and a small museum). The resort now provides an elegant Hotel next to the park (they changed the name to AquaShow Park Hotel), the park entry and the food stands are reasonably priced (23.80€ online with kids riding for free when escorted by 2 adults). The park has a lot of trees providing shadow during peak hours. On the downside the road access and the parking lot are a mess during the summer. Also the wave swimming poll is small compared to Siam Park and other main Spanish water parks and i almost hurt myself in every slide.
In 2015 the park opened a brand new slide called Free Fall -Kamikaze, one tallest in Europe with 32 meters and in 2017 Riverslide, a psicadelic tube. In 2018 a large Tropical pool was added to the Hotel next door to the park.
All in all the park is pretty neat and the roller coaster deserves a comeback.
