The Parque Aquatico das Grutas de Mira de Aire, also known as Aquagruta was opened in 1993 and it is located near the exit of Mira de Aire Caves at the borders of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros National Park in Portugal. The water park is intended for locals and tourists that visit the large network of cave galleries over 11 km long and who wish to spend pleasant moments of leisure in this beautiful landscape.
The small water park has a large swimming pool with 18 m in diameter, children’s Aqualandia, three water slides, a solarium and some leisure facilities. The slides are very nice but don’t expect world-class thrills like you have in the Algarve in the south of Portugal or at Costa Del Sol in Spain. However the varying heights of each slide offers plenty to challenge the more kamikaze riders, including an enclosed water tube ride. Children have their own dedicated Aqualandia area in the park. Here they can paddle in the shallow waters, enjoy endless descents on the two mini slides, take a shower under the mushroom waterfall or simply practice their swimming technique in the children´s swimming pool.
When we visit at the end of the 2016 season everything was well-kept and clean. There were plenty of life guards and shades. The food was limited to snacks at a bar but the caves next door have move offer including a restaurant with typical Portuguese cousine. A piece of advice: if you plan a visit there are combined tickets and you can see the caves and stay the rest of the days in the water park for no more than 13,55€.
