The park opened in 1996 and is themed around the Lego toy system. In 2011, the park had 1.9 million visitors, making it the joint second most visited theme park in the United Kingdom and 10th most visited in Europe alongside with Thorpe Park.
Legoland is split into 11 themed lands, incorporating various attractions, restaurants and shops: The Beginning, Imagination Centre, Duplo Land, Miniland, Traffic, Adventureland, Lego City, Pirate Landing, Knight´s Kingdom, Land of the Vikings, Kingdom of the pharaohs. The most interesting rides are Atlantis Submarine Voyage, an underwater ride through a large aquarium, Lego Star Wars Miniland Experience, an indoor attraction is based on the Star Wars films and features 7 famous scenes from the films made with 1.5 million LEGO bricks, and Dragon Ride, a roller-coaster based on the Knights’ Kingdom Lego sets. The Lego displays and Mini world are not to be missed as these are the unique features of the park. 4D shows are also an option especially on cold or rainy days. Also worth a visit are Pirate Falls, Jungle Coaster, Vikings River Splash.
In 2013 the park opened new attraction called Legends of Chima that consists in an e 4D 12 minute animated movie based on Lego World of Chima where tribes of animal warriors compete in epic battles for CHI, a mystical energy source of limitless power and destruction. Also in 2013 the force is now mutch stronger at the LEGO® Star Wars Miniland Model Display with a new Star Wars Gallery.
Legoland Windsor is one the priciest parks in the world. Admission prices are £45.60 for adults and £36.60 for children plus £3 for parking. Despite that fact the park is always full and has long queue lines for every attraction. To avoid that Legoland has recently introduced a Q-bot system. This is a little device about the size of a calculator that you can carry around and it can be set to alert you to turn up in line when it’s your turn to ride. The food and drinks huts dotted around are rather pricey but there are plenty of picnic areas and you can get your hand stamped so you can leave and re-enter the park.
All in all, a fantastic but very expensive place to visit!
