SeaWorld is a wonderland of ocean animals, rides and dazzling shows located in Orlando, Florida in the United States. SeaWorld Orlando opened on December 15, 1973 and combines a marine-life based zoological park with world-class thrill rides.
Off course that part of the park’s beauty is possibility to interact with several animals like mantas, sharks, dolphins, stringray’s and pelicans. The main attraction at the park still is Shumu’s “One Ocean”, a show of majestic killer whales.
The site is impressive with its 26,000,000 l of water and is now home to the park’s six killer whales.
After Blackfish, SeaWorld buckled under intense public pressure and ended its orca breeding program. But its current lineup of orcas stayed on the job and the controversial Shamu-style shows are still ongoing in Orlando, although SeaWorld has promised to eliminate them entirely by 2019. For what we saw the orcas where very well taken care off and park’s focus is now on the conservation and the animals well being. We love animals and don’t tolerate any wrong doing from any park – SeaWorld included – but in our opinion there are some exageration in the media driven by PETA and other animal groups.
Apart from the shows there are also rides for the adrenaline junkies like us: Manta roller coaster where you ride in a horizontal position (almost like flying), Kraken is a mega coaster and Turtle Trek, a 20 minute adventure in the new 3D 360 dome theater.
On May 2013 the park opened Antarctica Empire of the Penguin, a state-of-the-art interactive ride that will take guests on an exciting journey through the dangers and wondrous beauty of the Antarctic as they follow and mimic a young penguin’s adventures.
A total of 245 penguins and alcids live in the exhibit; species include gentoo, king, Adélie and rockhopper penguins, as well as their Arctic counterparts, the puffins, and the murres. The area is frezzing due to the 20,000 pounds (9,100 kg) of snow used to make the penguins happy each day.
In 2016 the park opened Mako, a hypercoaster named after the fastest species of shark in the oceans. The ride is dubbed the longest, tallest and fastest roller coaster in Florida.
In 2018 the park debut Infinity Falls, a new family-friendly rapids record breaking ride. The ride guarantees to get everyone riding soaked as you are lifted via a 40-foot vertical “raft elevator” to a sloping drop.
When we visited for the first time back in October 2012 rained punctually at 17 pm and all the outdoor rides closed immediatel. But the park also benefits a lot from Florida’s tropical climate as the park have luxuriant flora.
The main entrance of the park features a Florida-inspired theme with lush tropical landscaping and a large artificial freshwater marina with a themed iconic lighthouse.
In our 2018 visit the weather was mutch well suited for outdoor activities, incluinding take part of in fun-filled trick-or-treating in the park with the Saesame Street character in the Halloween Spooktacular event.
Located at one end of the word famous International Drive, SeaWorld Orlando hosted in 2017 an estimated 3,962,000 guests, ranking it the 11th most visited amusement park in the United States.
The park opens all year but sometimes suffers from Floridian inclement weather.
SeaWorld Orlando runs many promotions that can save you money, so check online or at the gates for your discount or several day passes.
Overall, it seems like dispite the out of proportions Black Fish controversy Seaworld Orlando is continuing its efforts to reinvent and attract young families after the most recent addition of its extreme roller coaster, Mako. They seem focused on taking another step in the right direction by making prices more affordable compared to other area theme parks. And that’s a good bacause Seaworld continues to be one of our favorites parks in the world and a must visit attraction in Orlando.
