Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is an amusement park located on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. It was the first Ferrari-branded theme park before the announcement of its counterpart in Salou, as part of PortAventura. To be honest it is half amusement park and half a car museum and you should really only go if you are a car/speed enthusiast. Thrill Seekers could be bored because roller coasters aside and some simulators there is not much to experience.
Ferrari World is also the largest indoor theme park in the world. The park was built in 2010, covers an area of 86,000 square metres and is themed around the legendary Ferrari story.
Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest roller coaster is the highlight of the park. This rocket ride is well-known for its acceleration launch of 0-240km/h in 4 seconds and tries to recreate the legendary Italian racetrack Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Due to the high air speeds and thus risk of an impact with airborne particulates or insects, all riders are required to wear protective glasses similar to those used during skydiving. A piece of advice: even on a quiet day the queue for this ride is 1hr long, so i recommend doing this first thing in the morning to avoid queues, or get the premium pass to jump the queue.
Apart from Formula Rossa there are exhibit cars driven by past F1 world champions, museums, interactive stalls and a second rollercoaster. What I would say is don’t ride the fastest roller coaster in the world until you have been on the other rides, which are all, ground breaking and ingenious, especially the aerial tour of the Italian coast, a fantastic piece of engineering.
The tickets, food and drinks are overpriced like everything in the United Emirates. The basic adult ticket 250 DHs (more than 60€) and you pay extra for the rides. The park is a bit far from the capital so it takes about 30 minutes each way via taxi to get to Ferrari World from Abu Dhabi. I went with my son (the one right next to the big Ferrari) in October of 2014 and the weather was bearable (don’t go in the summer when you face more than 40 degrees Celsius).
Cars are my life so i didn’t go for the rollercoaster so for me it was a great but expensive experience!.
