Cedar Point is located on the shore of Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio, about an hour west of Cleveland. Cedar Point opened in 1870 and was originally a beer garden, bathhouse, and dance floor on the beach side of a beautiful peninsula jutting out into the lake and is now a resort with 2 water parks and a Hotel.
The park has some of the fastest, tallest, craziest thrill rides in the United States and brags to be “the roller coaster capital of the world” with 16 roller coasters and 71 rides. And I kid you not when I tell you that you better have a strong stomach to ride Top Thrill Dragster, which reaches speeds of 120 mph in under 4 seconds or Millennium Force rated as #1 steel roller coaster in the world with the highest hill being 311 ft. achieving a maximum speed of 93 mph. In fact , Millennium Force is the greatest roller coaster in the park, the greatest steel roller coaster in the world, and overall, probably the greatest roller coaster in the world. Other rides for thrill seekers include Maverick, Magnum, Raptor, Iron Dragon, Wicked Twister and in the spring 2013 the park will open a new bad ass coaster called the Gatekeeper on May 11th. But the park is not only devoted to thrill because it even has a kids area called Planet Snoopy filled with pint-sized, non-scary versions of some of Cedar Point’s attractions.
In 2015 the park opened its first floorless coaster called Rougarou. The coaster is a convertion of the 1996’s Mantis with new trains, new colors, and a new theme based on a legendary creature in French folklore that draws comparisons to the mythical werewolf.
The newest roller coaster, Valravn, opened in May 2016 and Cedar Point Shores Water park open to the public on May 27th 2017.
Cedar point is more of a 2 day adventure then a 1 day theme park. There are so many rides that realistically no way to do this place in 1 day. Pack light and take comfortable shoes because there long walks waiting for you. And long wait times too, i’m afraid. Since wait times on the park’s roller coasters can exceed two hours even on slower days, arriving before the park opens at 10 a.m. is a must. Full-day admission is $43 but multiple-day passes are also available and are a better option. Final piece of advice: try to avoid Buying Park Food because it’s too expensive.
In our view Cedar Point represents one of the true gems of amusement parks in the US. and you can’t really legitimately say they’re a coaster fan until they’ve been here.
