Tivoli World is an amusement park located in Benalmádena, Málaga, Spain.
This small amusement park is directly under the path of a cable car which can be seen ascending and descending the hill (see photo). Tivoli was opened on May 2, 1972 by the Olsen family and is primarily aimed at families with young children (up to aged eleven). In the past four decades the park received more than 30 million visitors, mostly tourists staying in beach resorts from Andalusia.
Tivoli World is built on a steep hill but there is a mini train which shuttles people up and down between themed areas with Andalusia and Western décors, fairground style rides, restaurants and shops of several countries situated along the garden walks and fountains. On the top of the hill the views are astounding with Sierra Nevada and Mediterranean sea as background. In this area you can find the only non kiddie rides, including a small outdated rollercoaster, a free fall tower of 60 meters, the ‘techno jump’ and a giant wheel.
The park needs a complete renovation and up-to-date attractions. It feels that there were no investment at all at least in this century. Also several rides were closed down for repairs when we first visit in April 2013.
Even though our expectations weren’t very high for those reasons the park is overpriced: 8 Euros to get in plus 14 Euros for the ‘Supertivolino’ wristband which entitles you to unlimited rides is too much for a small park. Parking costs 1 euro which is good and the entry fee gave us a voucher for a free drink. But the food was dreadful and the staff unfriendly. We left within 2 hours of getting there.
In 2015 we came in the Summer back mainly to go on the Benalmádena cable car next door. The parked opened only at 17:30 and there were a show announced that seeemend to be nice. But none of the renovations mentioned above nor new rides.
