Parc Spirou is a brand new theme park – opened to the public on June 16, 2018 located in Monteux, near Avignon, the papal city in the south of France. The park is inspired by the work of Belgian comics publisher Dupuis that includes world beloved characters like Lucky Luke, The Smurfs, Gaston Lagaffe and Largo Winch.
Parc Spirou has nearly 10 acres in size, but the plans are to double that size in the coming years with at least one new ride every year (from 15 right now to 28/30 by 2020). The main attractions are a very good Gaston Lagaffe 4D video ride (where Gomer the Goof takes you on a virtual tour of the Spirou magazine offices), the Spirou racing and Lucky Luke family roller coasters and the Mesozoik Island dinaussar simulator.
We visited on a hot August summer afternoon and we must say that for now the park like the kind of place teenagers would be bored at after an hour, at the most: Few visitors, almost no shadows and some attractions are in soft mode opening (like the simultor Zombillénim). Fortunately, the park located just next to Splashworld water park, a good way to ease the high temperatures and almost no wind we had to endure.
Food reasonably priced. Toilets are very clean and tidy. The parking lot is very far from the park and has no shadows (you also have to pay even if in during our visit there were no more than 50 vehicles).
All in all, this is a cute little park with a nice theme but still needs to grow to be an alternative to the major parks in France. The project feels rushed. The website is a little sparse. They don’t even have a site map of the park on the website.
