Movieland is an Italian theme park located in lake Garda near Verona as part of Canevaworld resort.
Movieland Studios opened in 2002 and is dedicated to the world of movies. The park extends on a surface of over 100,000 square meters offering more than 20 attractions, including rides and shows, set among the movie sets of films such as: Tomb Raider, Terminator, Rambo, Zorro.
Among the most thrilling attractions are The Tomb Raider Machine (a Top Spin to asynchronous arms installed to the left of the main entrance of the Park, an area widely thematized) and the new 600-horsepower Kitt Super Jet boat inspired by the 80’s TV series starting David Hasselhoff (that reaches speeds of 50 mph while narrowly missing obstacles). The park also offers a wide variety of excellent shows like “Illusionist” “Rambo” “Carwash” and “Zorro” with a few “creative liberties” to avoid intellectual property rights.
Ticket prices are affordable even for a park that tries to be an Italian take on Universal Studios but fails. Let me explain my judgment: The park is unlicensed so most of the movies it rips off for its attractions and shows are given different names. For those who are purist of the american culture icons the park gives a sensation a “spaghetti western” movie. The making things worse every ride apart from the new super kit speedboat ride looks very dated and tired. Also the park lacks tree and shading so it could be very hot during summer months. Last but not least the park lacks a world class roller coaster falling in comparison with Gardaland next door.
In sum, the park has some good creative ideas but needs exciting new rides to compete with major European theme parks.
