Disneyland Paris turns 25 year in 2017 and there are amazing ongoing celebrations. The resort, located in Marne-la-Vallée, a new town in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France, at 20 miles distance from the city of lights center is home of two theme parks (Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios), seven hotels, and a shopping, dining and entertainment complex (Disney Village).
The park opened on 12 April 1992 as Eurodisney and spans for over 4,800 acres (19 km). Since its inception is the most visited theme park in Europe (13.4 million visitors in 2016). Both parks are exciting and hectic destinations, mostly for young kids. If you went to any of the two Magic Kingdom parks in the United States the resort could be a bit disappointing because you´ll find only some won’t find some of the Disney star attractions. However, Disneyland Paris features what might be the world’s most impressive Disney castle (Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant) and has the best versions of Big Thunder Mountain and Haunted Mansion (Phantom Manor).
A for the main park has 5 themed areas: Adventureland, Fronteirland, Fantasyland, Discoveryland and Mainstreet USA.
Main Street, U.S.A. is the first “themed land” inside the main entrance and has many stores and host the parade. For the 25th Anninversay Disney has some old automobiles from 30’s in America.
Frontierland is set in the Wild West at the time of the Gold Rush, and we gleefully jumped into our wagon for a thrilling ride on a runaway train in Big Thunder Mountain . In this part of the park you can also hitch a ride on the Disneyland Railroad, take a river trip or get spooked in the Phantom Manor.
Adventureland takes its theme from characters such as Indiana Jones and Aladdin. However the main attraction are Indiana Jones et le Temples du Péril and Pirates of the Caribbean water ride.
Discoveryland house many exciting rides including Space Mountain: Mission 2 (soon to be Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain),Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast and the 2017 revamped Star Tours 2, The Adventure Continues.
Fantasyland is the best area for smaller children. Rides include, the Mad Hatter’s Teacups, the (rather nauseating!) It’s a Small World, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant. It’s also where the Sleeping Beauty Castle is and here the anniversary Iluminations show is presented at the end of each evening.
Disneyland Paris is open every single day of the year without exception and has a completely different feel in winter compared to summer.
Our group went to the park several times including in December 2009, February, 2012 and in August 2014 (on a rainy day) and on Spring 2017 for the 25 year celebrations. In all visits even though at least for one time the park was in low season all major rides had waiting times. So to avoid disappointed tears, we would strongly suggest paying a little extra for a Fast Pass ticket, which cuts the waiting time for the rides enormously. Also, if you’ve never been to Disneyland Paris before, the first thing to do is check the times of the parades to avoid missing any of the action. There are also some terrific shows featuring the popular and well-known Disney characters (a show for the Disney Princess is now on exhibition ).
The park also offers different types of restaurants and snack places with a choice of cuisine and catering for every budget, plus they are all designed around the theme for whatever area of the park you are. There is also the Disney Village that stays open after the parks closure for food and beverages. One last piece of advice. As tickets prices are very high plan ahead and try one of the online deals at Disney itself or in sites like 365tickets.
