Let me start by saying that Terra Mitica was one of the most disappointing theme parks we ever visited.
The park opened in 2000 with a big bang under Paramount flag. It had a fantastic location over Benidorm beaches and next door a very good water park Aqualandia Benidorm. It also had great ancient lands ideas and themed areas: Egypt, Rome, Iberian Peninsula, Greece, and the Mediterranean Islands. It had award winning restaurants and a stunningly haunting ambience. But that was faded away in time. In 2004-2006 the park went through a bankruptcy process, and since then it been has rough ride. When it was finally sold to a private French company last year we all hoped for major improvements. But unfortunately the park was divided in two to squeeze more money from visitors and no new rides or features were added, apart from minor improvement in the shows. In fact, for the 2013 season the park has been divided in to two separate parks with the creation of Iberia Park (a free to enter area that requires tokens to be bought for access to the rides). Also in 2013 the park is announced a new 5D Cinema experience at Templo de Kinetos and for 2014 were prepared 2 new shows: “Néron”, a circus in Rome themed area and “La Jaima de Saqqara”, an oriental dance show in Egypt. To top the unfortunate events related to the park in 2014 a major accident occurred in the park teenager died after falling from Inferno rollercoaster.
We visited back in 2009 during Easter for 2 days and the park already showed some decline. It was almost empty but offered us a 2 day ticket for free (that we used next morning to repeat one or two more enjoyable rides.). The rides includes a painful wooden roller coaster Magnus Colossus (where i almost hurt myself since it was bumpy the whole way round and was not fun at all), El Laberinto del Minotauro, Inferno, La Furia de Triton (a themed big boat drop ride) and Rapidos de Argos (a fun water rapids ride). To be honest we were back then a little bit disappointed and don’t plan returning.
But since then several friends that visited the park told us that everything is even worse. For 2014 season the tickets costs 28€. A bit expensive for number and quality of the attractions (only 25) and shows in the park. Also the food is very poor and expensive and the shows often don’t start on time. But the worst part is that our friends didn’t felt safe on the rides that were poorly kept and a times dirty.
I’m must be blunt: Avoid Terra Mitica at all coasts.
Travel a few more miles to Salou and you have in PortAventura one of the best theme parks in Europe.
