Hansa-Park is located in Sierksdorf (Schleswig-Holstein) northern Germany off the Baltic Sea.
The park was opened on May 15, 1977 and is themed after the Hanseatic League, a commercial and defensive confederation of merchant guilds and their market towns that dominated trade along the coast of Northern Europe until the 17th century. The park currently spans 113 acres (0.46 km2) and includes more than 125 attractions.
The park is divided into eleven different themed areas, including Alter Jahrmarkt (Medieval Fair), Westernstadt (Western Town), Mexiko (Mexico), Piratenland (Pirate Land) and Abenteuerland (Adventure Land). Each of these areas contains rides and shows consistent with its theme. Fulch von Novgorod, a world-class launched coaster, it’s a very unique experience. 1/3 of the ride is in dark. And there’s a 97 degree fall in the darkness. It speeds from 0-100 km/h in 1.4 sec. This roller-coaster was great fun and different from what we have tried before.
In 2015 the park opened Kärnan, a hyper coaster manufactured by Gerstlauer, that is both the only full-circuit hypercoaster with inversions in Europe, as well as the first roller coaster ever to have a “reverse freefall” drop on the lift hill (see video).
The park is very neat and with enough shadow when it’s extremely warm weather. We visit in July 2013 and there were flowers everywhere. The shows are also quite good, especially the childrens’ shows in the Old Town Fair area. Unfortunately, all shows are in German and could be quite tricky for anyone who doesn’t understands German.
The food isn’t bad, and also not terribly expensive (But there are enough picnic tables so you can bring your own food). In high summer the wasps can be a problem (the park is located by the sea), so bring bug spray.
In sum, Hansa-Park is mid-sized park with great fun for all ages. Clean, with, a variety of attractions and a top notch roller coaster.
