Tiergarten Schönbrunn is the oldest existing zoo in the world. And one of best we may add.
Part of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna’s 13th district of Hietzing the zoo was founded in 1752 by the Austrian Habsburg family.
Everything here is world class: 1) excellent playgrounds for the animals; 2) wonderful walking paths and multiple viewing angles for visitors with good variation of indoor/outdoor viewing areas; 3) Huge collection of animals including pandas and beers 4) Excellent food and beverage options; 5) Vienna Card included and accessible transports available.
My Kodak moment: the huge polar bear could be seen swimming in the pool from underneath the exhibit on a hot July day.
On the downside: huge crowds, information displays are only in German and entrance to the zoo very poorly marked
Overall: a must see in Austria
