Everyone read as a child the story of a little blond boy coming from the asteroid B612 angry with its rose. But now you can live the story in one of the new theme parks in Europe that opened its doors to the public just a few months ago on July 1, 2014. Le Parc du Petit Prince is located in France, in Alsace, Ungersheim and is inspired by the work of Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The owners of the park Aerophile SAS were previously specialized in operating various air balloons located in parks or tourist spots in France and elsewhere worldwide from Disneyland Paris to Futuroscope. That’s why the park’s slogan is “the first aero theme park in the world”.
Le Parc du Petit Prince is an uplifting educational experience centered on a tender tale of loneliness, friendship, love and loss, in the form of a young prince fallen to Earth. The park is small, focused on children and families. All attractions and shows are inspired by the world of the Little Prince, the book by French aristocrat, writer, poet and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry both the most-read and most-translated book in the French language. Le parc du Petit Prince approaches the animal and plant world, astronomy, aviation and emerges you in Saint-Exupery’s philosophy best underlined on the quote from The Little Prince: “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”. So if you’re looking for cuteness that’s the right place. Don’t expect thrilling activities, though. It’s a park mainly for small children and mature audiences. Like in the quote from the book is not possible to capture the greatness of this new theme park in words, photos and videos. You need to go here and follow your heart!.
The major rides on the new Petit Prince theme park are the balloon rides. Onboard on 1 of 3 available balloons you climb 150 meters in the air and with good weather you have brilliant views of Germany’s Black Forest in the morning, the Swish Alps and the Jura in the midday and the Vosges in the evening!. Nice stuff!.
Apart from the balloon rides, there are some other good experiences such as the 3D movie of The Little Prince, Wings of Courage or aero bar, reminiscent of Futuroscope, and an outdoor kid’s area. But not many more as you can do this park is half a day. As the Park opened in July, all amenities were still nice and clean and there are not many lines.
We visited on a weekend in October 2014 and there were less than a 1000 visitors on the day. Very poor attendance for such an ambitious theme park so well located in the French, German and Swiss border. We could only guess the reasons but 3 come to mind. The park opened very late in the year and has poor advertising. The lack of thrill rides alienates teen visitor. The park’s tickets are high for the offer. The souvenir shop in particular is a joke: all kind of stuff of Little Prince but crazy expensive!! A pencil and little notebook € 6.00. A very small plastic Puppet of Little Prince €12.00
All in all the park recommended for families with young kids and balloon lovers.
