Kings Island today unveiled its new $24 million roller coaster, Banshee, a super-smooth spinning spirit, which left riders more happy than scared.
“You can’t help but just laugh – and scream,” said Christi Billington, a member of the Great Ohio Coaster Club, who arrived at the Cincinnati-area park before 5 a.m. today to be among the first to ride.
Several thousand coaster fans from across the country descended on the park before dawn to preview what’s been labeled the most anticipated new amusement park ride of the year. The park opens to the public Friday.
Their reaction? “It’s a home run – one of the best coasters I’ve been on in a long time,” said Duane Books of Massillon, a member of the American Coasters Enthusiasts.
Banshee, the world’s longest inverted coaster, features cars that hang from (rather than sit atop) the track, with riders’ legs dangling from their seats. The ride is similar to Cedar Point’s Raptor – but smoother, longer, faster and with more twists and turns.
