Located in Alentejo, Portugal 120 km from Lisbon, Mora Fluviarium (“Fluviário de Mora”) is a small theme park dedicated to the wonderful hidden world of the rivers and lakes. The site is only the third of its kind in the world and offers you the chance to gain first-hand experience of many of the inhabitants of the rivers and lakes in Portugal and the world.
Inaugurated on March 21, 2007, the Fluviário allows to observe 55 different species of animal and plants that live in rivers, including several otters (like the ones in the photos).
When we visit in the spring 2015 and see a good place to learn about the river fishes from all the world. We especially liked the otters on the outside. Ask for the hours of animal feeding, as children will love to see this. Otters are lazy animals and they sleep all day long. Except while they’re being fed and a little bit after. So it’s very important to get the feeding times right before you start your journey.
After this you get into the exotic zone where you can check out “piranhas” (flesh eating fish), snakes (and a big surprise awaits at the end) and some other crazy (and poisonous) animals as well.
The price is a little bit expensive having in account the dimension of the building, the duration of the visit and the number os species. Also, the maintenance on the exterior area should be improved. But to compensate the natural park around the park is a bonus, once is possible to watch the bird on their natural environment (with at least one watch tower) and a circuit 5 kms to relax near the river.
A nice small park for a short visit.
