Bioparc Valencia is a 10-hectare (25-acre) wild life park located in Valencia, Spain. The park opened in 2008 and is built under the concept of “zoo-immersion” that consists of immersing visitors into the animals’ habitat and is achieved by using nature (rivers, ponds, streams and rocks) to separate visitors from the animals.
Bioparc is divided in 3 main themed areas including the African savannah, the forests of equatorial Africa and Madagascar and the African wetlands where you get to see 4.000 animals of 250 species, including lions, gorillas, rhinos, elephants, hippos, monkeys, lemurs, giraffes and many others. When we visit back in the spring 2016 the Savannah area had many types of animals roaming freely. You could almost touch the giraffes. Going to Madagascar to visit the lemurs was the highlight of the visit, with this sweet animals passing through our legs and standing quietly like models to be photographed!
The park is spotlessly maintained, there is not a cage in sight and all the animal look well cared for.
The bird of prey display was very entertaining with birds of prey flying through the arena and the elephant feeding time was also wonderful (i simply love elephants and these ones where very well taken care off).
Not to miss is also a video of the park’s science and education projects just after the entrance passing the bridge over Valencia’s Turia riverbed.
A few tips.
Don’t bring any food with you.
No pic nics are allowed and your bags are searched at the entrance. The good thing is that the park has a nice open air coffee shop in front of the lake with reasonable prices.
Make sure that you go there well prepared with light clothes and a comfortable walking shoes, as you will spend at least about 3-4 hours walking.
The 24 euro price tag is a bit steep but it’s definitely worth every cent. A great day out!-
